Former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and leader of the Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav, announced that his party will maintain an equal distance from both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in an effort to defeat the saffron party.
SP to Stand Firmly with Mamata Banerjee to Defeat BJP
Speaking at his party’s workers’ meeting, Akhilesh stated that the SP plans to firmly stand with Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee to accomplish this goal. He praised Banerjee for her victory in the 2021 West Bengal Assembly election, saying that it was an important step towards defeating the BJP.
Commitment to Protecting the Indian Constitution
Akhilesh expressed his commitment to protecting the Indian Constitution, stating that the Samajwadi Party is willing to make any sacrifice to do so. he also accused the BJP-led government of selling out the country’s assets to foreign powers and private players, while criticizing the increase in unemployment and cost of living under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s regime.
Taking a Swipe at BJP
In addition, Yadav took a swipe at the BJP over its protests regarding Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks in the UK, stating that the BJP should be equally concerned about the comments made by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath regarding Ambedkar. Akhilesh alleged that Adityanath disrespected the Constitution and that the saffron party should listen to that.
Criticizing the Use of Central Agencies against Opposition
Akhilesh also criticized the use of central agencies such as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Enforcement Directorate (ED), and Income Tax (IT) to conduct raids on opposition leaders. He noted that those who avail themselves of the “BJP vaccine” are not bothered by such actions while pointing out that the agencies are often used against the opposition. He warned that this trend of targeting the opposition could lead to a dangerous precedent.
